ABOUT THE PROJECT

When we think of inspiring people, we think of women. From their innovation, their courage, and their fearlessness women have been at the forefront of change for centuries. Women have created business empires, won gold medals, led countries, and advocated to change the world. While there are women all over the world who would fall into these categories, the University of Illinois has an incredible number of inspiring women of their own.

There is not a place on the University of Illinois campus that recognizes the accomplishments and diversity of students, faculty, and staff all in one place. Our goal was to create a platform for some of the inspiring women on this campus to be featured and recognized for the positive impact they have made at the University of Illinois. This project started on February 1st and will feature 100 women throughout the Spring 2018 semester on our Facebook page and this website. I hope you enjoy learning about these incredible women just as much as we have had featuring them.

We are still accepting nominations, so if you know of any person that identifies as a woman that has made a positive impact on this campus, please fill out our nomination form below.

Meet the Team

Perry Ross is a senior in Materials Science and Engineering from Mundelein, Illinois. Throughout her time at the University of Illinois she has been involved in her sorority Phi Sigma Sigma as the external philanthropy chair, worked in Professor Robert Maass’s research group in the Materials Science and Engineering department, and is a FYCARE Facilitator for the Women’s Resource Center. During her time doing research with Professor Maass, she studied metallic glasses and in July 2017 she was the first author on a published paper in Acta Materialia. Before Perry came to college, she competed for the USA National Karate team and had traveled to Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, and England to compete internationally. Because of karate, Perry became passionate for travel and has traveled solo to Qatar and Nepal, where she went on a 12-day hiking trip around the Himalaya mountains.

Perry was inspired to start this project because she wanted to recognize the accomplishments of the women she has met on this campus over four years. There are so many people at the University of Illinois doing amazing things across all colleges and she wanted to create a platform to recognize some of them. I hope you enjoy this project and reading about the incredible women across this campus!

Marissa Sulek is a senior majoring in Advertising with minors in Public Relations and Communications from Park Ridge, Illinois.  While at Illinois, Marissa was the Chapter President of Alpha Delta Pi and became President of the Panhellenic Council shortly after.  She is also a reporter for Fighting Illini Productions where she was assigned the football team and interviewed Head Coach Lovie Smith weekly.  Finally, she helps host the University’s first ever morning show also known as Good Morning Illini.

When Marissa heard about the 100 Days of Women Project she felt the need to be involved.  During her time in Alpha Delta Pi and overseeing 3,600 women as Panhellenic Council President, she had the chance to work with multiple inspiring women.  Therefore, meeting and showcasing accomplished women on the University of Illinois campus seemed like a perfect opportunity.
